Empowering Our Community through Education
Each of our programs is rooted in the principles of justice and equality, guided by the sciences of personal, community, and planetary wellness. Our initiatives are designed to function through a hyper-local economy, serving and benefiting the community directly. We believe that by fostering a connection to locally grown produce, we can create a healthier and more resilient community. Through our educational programs and community outreach, we aim to inspire others to join us in our mission. Our garden offers a space where individuals can learn about sustainable agriculture practices and experience the benefits of locally grown food first-hand. We prioritize sustainability in all our operations, from composting organic waste to using eco-friendly farming techniques.
Place Based Learning
At The Orchard, we believe in redefining traditional education through our innovative STEA³M education programs. STEA³M stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts/Agriculture/Activism (A³), and Math. We collaborate with local schools and community organizations to offer engaging workshops, youth camps, fieldwork experiences, raised bed garden installation, and on-site garden coaching. Our goal is to help kids develop hands-on skills, foster teamwork, and build a stronger connection to their community.
Urban Forestry Project with A.S.U.
The Orchard is proud to be a partner in collaboration with 5 community-based organizations, 4 municipalities, 3 industry partners, 3 national organizations, and 4 ASU departments with the Greater Phoenix Urban Forestry Accelerator Initiative. The project aims to develop a comprehensive, industry-supported, self-sustaining urban forestry workforce development and entrepreneurial ecosystem. Our focus is the development of a demonstration site in Agroforestry at Brooks. We are offering educational stipends and paid internships for 30 participants across 3 cohorts of 10 each this year and next.
